Historical Background

The ALERT Training Center has been a pioneer in medical training since its establishment:

In 1965 G.C. (1958 EFY), the center began offering Leprosy training for both national and international trainees, as well as Dermatology training for medical students from Addis Ababa University (AAU).

It was officially recognized as a training center for Africa by the Heads of State of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). Additionally, in 1988 G.C., the center was designated as a WHO Collaborating Center for Leprosy Training.

In 2009 G.C., the center was selected as a National Center of Excellence for HIV/AIDS Training.

It has also been recognized by the Ministry of Health (FMOH) for its performance in delivering International Standards for Tuberculosis Care (ISTC) training since May 2018.

In 2020, the ALERT Training Center was officially accredited as a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) provider

With a long-standing commitment to excellence in medical education, the ALERT Training Center continues to play a vital role in strengthening healthcare capacity at national and international levels.

Yearly Performance

Annually, the department achieves the following milestones in its dedicated service:

  • Delivering need-based national training to over 4,000 trainees across the country.
  • Providing international training to more than 200 trainees from various countries.
  • Conducting skill-based training for over 1,500 trainees annually.
  • Building strong partnerships with key stakeholders and regularly assessing their satisfaction.
  • Promoting the center’s activities through social media platforms such as Telegram and Facebook.
  • Enhancing visibility by distributing 3,000 promotional materials, including pens, notebooks, and leaflets.

    Through these initiatives, the CPD Center continues to expand its impact, ensuring high-quality training and professional development for healthcare providers.

Qualifications & Number of Health Professionals

The department is staffed with a skilled team in accordance with CPD requirements, including:

  • Training Director (Chief Public Health Specialist)
  • Training Coordinators (Two Junior Public Health Specialists and One Infectious Disease Specialist)
  • Junior IT Professional
  • Secretary
  • Administrative Staff
  • This dedicated team ensures the effective coordination, delivery, and continuous improvement of CPD programs.

The center is equipped with

  • Three conference room –Up to 35 participants
  • Two syndicate rooms
  • ICT room
  • Skill lab
  • State of art video conference room
  • Different staff offices and stores
  • Teaching and Training Services

    The Training Directorate is actively engaged in the following areas to enhance professional development and healthcare education:

  • Provision of Training – Delivering high-quality training programs for both national and international trainees.
  • Training Course Development – Designing structured educational programs covering a wide range of medical and healthcare topics.
  • Seminars – Organizing expert-led discussions on emerging healthcare trends and best practices.
  • Workshops – Conducting hands-on training sessions focused on skill development and practical application.
  • Online Learning Platforms – Providing e-learning opportunities, including webinars and digital training modules.
  • Upskilling and Reskilling Programs – Offering specialized training to enhance healthcare professionals’ expertise and adaptability to evolving medical advancements.
  • Collaboration and Knowledge-Sharing Initiatives – Facilitating interactive learning experiences that promote teamwork, innovation, and the exchange of best practices.
  • Through these initiatives, the Training Directorate plays a vital role in strengthening healthcare capacity and fostering continuous professional growth.

    Service Hours.

    Our services are available on weekdays during working hours. Depending on the type of training, services may also be offered on weekends.
