As the Director of Nursing & Midwifery at ALERT Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, I am privileged to lead a team of dedicated nurses and midwives who are the foundation of patient care. Our directorate is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered care, ensuring the highest standards of nursing and midwifery practice.

We play a critical role in inpatient care, maternal and child health, surgical and critical care, and community outreach programs, ensuring holistic and personalized care for every patient. The Nursing & Midwifery Directorate has been an integral part of ALERT Comprehensive Specialized Hospital since its inception. With a rich history spanning over 50 years the hospital has consistently provided high-quality nursing care, evolving its midwifery services in response to the increasing demand for maternal and neonatal healthcare. Today, the directorate continues to expand its workforce and specialized services, ensuring comprehensive care across all departments.

Each year, the directorate plays a pivotal role in patient care, including:

  • Managing 15,550 inpatient admissions across all wards
  • Assisting in 7,000 deliveries, ensuring safe maternal and neonatal outcomes
  • Supporting 16,366 surgical procedures with perioperative nursing care
  • Providing specialized critical care nursing in ICU and emergency settings

  • Providing specialized care for neonates, infants, and children
  • Managing neonatal intensive care (NICU) cases

  • Cardiovascular Nursing

  • Monitoring cardiac conditions (e.g., post-MI, CHF management)
  • Assisting in cardiac catheterization and interventions
  • Educating patients on heart disease prevention and lifestyle changes
  • Operating Room (OR) Nursing

  • Preoperative & Setup: Verifying patient identity, preparing the OR with sterile equipment, reviewing patient history, and conducting a

    surgical time-out for safety.

  • Intraoperative Duties: Assisting as a scrub or circulating nurse by maintaining sterility, managing instruments, documenting procedures, and responding to emergencies.
  • Postoperative & Patient Care: Ensuring proper wound care, monitoring recovery in PACU, documenting surgical details, and educating patients on post-op care.
